Since the treatment of the donors is much more time-consuming than preparation of the recipients, donor egg IVF lends itself well to couples and single Intended Parents coming for treatment from outside of Northern California. With a world-wide shortage of qualified egg donors, many of our recipients travel from out of state or even abroad.
Gestational surrogacy is not available in many parts of the world but the legal status of this procedure is well established in California. Recently, fertility preservation in conjunction with third party reproduction has also attracted many patients from abroad.
To accomodate growing numbers of Intended Parents coming to Berkeley for these therapies, we have developed a system of evaluating potential recipients through review of past medical records, telephone interviews and close cooperation with their local doctors. FAX and e-mail provide efficient methods of rapid communication. This system allows us to minimize the length of time the Intended Parents have to spend in California.
Berkeley is about 10 miles from the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and 4 miles from the Oakland International Airport (OAK).
